Cable End Protector (The Turtle)

The Turtle is an end protector for submarine light guide cable and used on spare amplifier and cable sections protecting fibers from dirt and physical damage caused by shipping and long term storage. Allowing fast access to the fibers for testing without any cable preparation time. The Turtle can run through all cable handling equipment both drum and traction type that have the ability to handle 3.5 inch (90mm) diameter. The fiber compartment is designed to maintain minimum bend radius with a clear poly carbonate internal cover for visual inspection of fibers without subjecting them to physical damage, and has an oversized outer opening for easy access with a wraparound aluminum cover for maximum protection. The Turtle requires no special tooling for installation and can be reused many times over. The Turtle is supplied with a pulling eye for moving cable sections through cable trays on ships and in warehouse depots. Three types of cable attachments are available. There are Two clamp on type, one clamps to the power conductor the other clamps on the outer polymer with a force of up to 2 tons, the third style is a bolt on attachment that bolts directly to a factory installed shell. The Turtle is available with a current limited grounding system to discharge the static and induced voltages caused by transformer or capacitive coupling on large cable sections. The current limited grounding system protects vital electronic components from high current flow and electro magnetic pulse caused by an intense uncontrolled discharge.
